Badrinath Yatra by Helicopter
Overview
What this yatra is, in one paragraph
The Badrinath same-day helicopter yatra is a return day trip from Dehradun to Badrinath Dham. You are picked up from your Dehradun hotel, fly from Sahastradhara helipad at around 7:00 AM, reach Badrinath by about 8:00 AM, and transfer by car (the helipad is ~1 km from the temple) for VIP darshan with a priority puja pass. You return to Dehradun by about 11:00 AM. Udan Aviation runs the scheduled departure, VIP darshan and transfers; the aircraft is operated by a DGCA-permitted NSOP holder. The package is ₹95,000 per person, inclusive of 5% service tax; a full private charter for up to 6 passengers is available on demand.
Badrinath Dham sits at 3,133 m on the right bank of the Alaknanda, guarded by the Nar and Narayan ranges with Neelkanth Peak behind, and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is one of the four Dhams of the Char Dham. By road it is a demanding two-day journey each way from Dehradun; the helicopter compresses that into a single morning, which is why most travellers who choose it are senior pilgrims, families with limited time, and visitors from outside India.

Why fly
Why pilgrims choose the helicopter over the road
It saves days, not hours
The Dehradun–Badrinath road route runs to 300+ km through mountain terrain and typically needs an overnight halt each way. The flight turns a multi-day trip into a single morning — the biggest reason travellers with limited leave choose it.
Built for senior travellers
Long mountain drives are tiring and, for some, medically risky. The package removes most of that strain with the flight, a car at the temple and VIP darshan — though Badrinath's altitude still means a doctor's clearance where health conditions exist.
Fixed daily departures
Udan Aviation runs daily fixed-departure yatras through the season rather than selling ad-hoc seats, so confirmed travellers have a planned date to build around — valuable when sector capacity is tight.
VIP darshan handled
A priority puja pass, car service at Badrinath and helipad coordination are arranged, so the day goes to the pilgrimage rather than logistics.
The Day
How the same day works
This is the scheduled plan. Because it is an NSOP flight, exact timings are tentative, confirmed the evening before, and subject to weather and clearances from DGCA, ATC and local administration.
- ~6:00 AM — Pickup from your Dehradun hotel and transfer to Sahastradhara helipad; ground-crew briefing on the trip and do's and don'ts.
- 7:00 AM — Estimated departure from Sahastradhara helipad, Dehradun.
- 8:00 AM — Arrive Badrinath; car transfer to the temple (~1 km) for VIP darshan with a priority puja pass and ground-staff assistance.
- 10:00 AM — Estimated departure from Badrinath helipad.
- ~11:00 AM — Arrive back at Sahastradhara helipad, Dehradun; car drop to your hotel.

Before you book
The rules that matter — weight, baggage, payment, cancellation
Helicopter yatra has firm rules set by the operating company and the authorities. Knowing them before you pay avoids problems on the day.
Weight & baggage
Total payload must not exceed 450 kg for up to 6 passengers; the pilot's call on load is final. Declare each passenger's correct weight at booking (on the higher side, including clothes and shoes). Overweight above 75 kg is ₹2,000/kg, collected in Dehradun the day before. A declared-weight discrepancy at weighing carries a ₹30,000 penalty, and wrongly declared weight can mean de-boarding with no refund. Baggage: one soft bag up to 3 kg per passenger; no trolleys.
Payment terms
30% of the tour cost confirms the booking; the balance is due 40 days before travel. If the balance is not received in time, the booking is cancelled and the advance is forfeited.
Cancellation policy
| Up to 90 days before | 80% refund |
|---|---|
| Up to 60 days before | 70% refund |
| Up to 40 days before | 50% refund |
| Up to 30 days before | 20% refund |
| Under 30 days / no-show | No refund |
Weather and force-majeure cancellations follow separate terms. If the tour cannot depart Dehradun at all, a full refund minus 12% applies. Refunds are processed after the season, within 30 working days.
